Types of Breast Implants: Saline or Silicone Gel?

One of the primary decisions to make before this procedure is the type and size of your breast implants. Our practice uses both saline and silicone gel breast implants, giving you the ability to pick the type of implant that will best suit your lifestyle and bring you the cosmetic results you desire.

Silicone gel implants, approved by the FDA in late 2006, tend to feel more natural than saline, and also wrinkle and ripple less frequently than saline implants. We use silicone gel implants in the majority of our breast augmentation patients.

New “Gummy” Implants

Natrelle’s INSPIRA® round gel breast implants are designed for increased fullness and a soft feel. They’ve been given the nickname “Gummy” because when cut in half, the implant is stable and retains its shape, enabling you to enjoy a firmer, more supple bust. Many advocates of “gummy” implants believe they look and feel more like natural breasts, and they are safer than other types of implants because they have a lower rupture rate.

Breast Augmentation with Fat Grafting

Perhaps the most attractive aspect about the fat grafting breast augmentation procedure is the fact that it’s something of a two-in-one process. Rather than utilize an artificial implant to create your new breasts, we’ll actually utilize fat cells that have been harvested from your very own body.

We’ll pick a donor site that has plenty of fat cells to spare, and using liposuction, we’ll remove the right amount of fat from the donor site, given the specifications and goals of your specific surgical procedure. Depending on the donor site, we’ll use either general or local anesthesia.

Once the fat has been harvested and purified, it’ll be carefully injected back into your breasts, where it’ll work to increase fullness and size, giving you the bust you know you deserve. Since there is no artificial implant, there’s no chance of rejection or complication!
