Why Your Surgery Facility Matters

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons requires every member surgeon to operate in a facility accredited by an approved national organization. The reason is in the data: board-certified plastic surgery performed in accredited ambulatory facilities carries a serious complication rate of less than 0.5% and a mortality rate of less than 1 in 57,000.

What Is QUAD A?

QUAD A, formerly AAAASF, the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, is a non-profit, physician-founded accreditation organization that has set safety standards for outpatient surgical facilities since 1980. To earn and keep accreditation, a facility must demonstrate excellence in:

• Operating room equipment and emergency-response capability
• Surgeon credentials, board certification, and hospital privileges
• Anesthesia administration by qualified, monitored providers
• Infection control, sterilization, and sanitation protocols
• Continuous quality improvement and patient safety data reporting

These standards are recognized by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
