Voluma Ft. Myers
Loss of volume in the cheeks leads to sagging skin and an aged, hollow appearance. Full cheeks are a key marker of youth. Age-related volume loss can cause the face to lose definition, balance and change shape, all of which may make a person appear older than their years.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is an injectable gel introduced by Allergan, Inc. that works instantly to add volume and subtly lift the cheek area, temporarily reversing this particular sign of aging. It is the first and only filler FDA-approved to enhance cheek volume in people over the age of 21.
Like other fillers in the Juvederm family, Voluma is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a complex sugar that occurs naturally in your skin. Voluma also combines with collagen and elastin to improve skin structure and elasticity to create a smooth natural look. It was designed specifically to restore facial volume as opposed to just filling wrinkles.
Voluma does not involve surgery and is injected with a small needle. To reduce discomfort during the procedure, Voluma contains a numbing agent called lidocaine. The procedure takes 30 minutes and there is no downtime, although strenuous activity and extensive sun exposure should be avoided for the first 24 hours following the treatment. The great news is that the results of a treatment with Voluma can last up to two years and are visible immediately after the injection. You can look up to five years younger with a more youthful, natural-looking profile.
The most commonly reported side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. Most of these will resolve in 1- 2 weeks.

Patients should notify Dr. Garramone and his staff, if they are on any medication that may prolong bleeding, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, or other blood thinners. This may cause increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Patients should also notify the office if they are undergoing any therapy used to decrease the body’s immune response. As with all injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.
Voluma should not be used if a patient has a history of severe allergies or severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), or if the patient has had allergic reactions to the proteins (gram-positive bacterial proteins) used to make the hyaluronic acid (HA) in JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC. The safety of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel for use during pregnancy, in women who are breastfeeding, or in patients with very thin skin in the cheek area has not been studied.
