Restore Your Youthful Appearance

Normally a person loses between 50 to 100 hairs per day because 90% of hair is in the growth phase, and 10% is in the shedding phase at any given time. However, any significant change that alters the normal growth cycle of hair or permanently damages the roots of the hair (the follicles) results in excessive hair loss (100 or more hairs a day), which can be temporary or permanent and can be accelerated with predisposing genetic and environmental factors.

While 95% of hair loss from the scalp is related to heredity, other common hair loss causes include stress, age, and trauma to the hair. If you suspect that you may be “follicly-challenged,” there are safe and proven effective treatments and procedures available that could recover the hair loss and perceived age of men. Customizing Your Procedure

During your private hair transplant consultation, you will be able to discuss your options with our plastic surgeon and experienced members of our team and have an opportunity to ask a full range of questions and address any concerns you may have.

The surgical hair transplant procedure will be specifically tailored to meet your personal objectives, and there are a couple of different methods that we can utilize. We’ll work with you to develop a treatment plan that is customized to your specific needs, and answer any questions you might have during your in-person consultation.

How Long Does Hair Transplantation Last?

While the hair along the hairline may have receded, as well as thinned or disappeared in the crown and vertex, hair follicles on the sides and back of the head are genetically imprinted to produce hairs through a patient’s life.

Hair transplantation is the only permanent solution to hair loss. Once the hair follicles are transplanted from the back of the scalp, they will continue to produce healthy and vibrant hairs in the grafted areas in the years to come. It is your natural hair and can be cut, styled, and if necessary colored.

FUI (Follicular Unit Integration)

Follicular Unit Integration (FUI) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed in our modern surgical facility and is the most established safe and proven procedure for ensuring transplanted hair follicle viability. Patients receive sedation, allowing them to be comfortable and totally relaxed while the surgeon and technicians complete the procedure.

After receiving sedation, both the donor area (usually the back or sides of the scalp) and the recipient area(s) are anesthetized. The tissue to be used for grafting is removed, and the plastic surgeon skillfully conceals the area from which it was removed. The follicle-bearing tissue is then hand-fractionated, resulting in microscopic grafts for insertion into the designated recipient area(s).

The surgeon then uses a variety of microscopic instruments to create receptive sites for the follicle-bearing grafts, which may contain as few as a single follicle or perhaps two to three follicles in areas where greater density is desired. Your surgeon will continue to vary the articulation of the instrument during the creation of recipient sites, for a natural look when the follicles become active and begin to produce hairs.

The arrangement and positioning of these follicular unit grafts determine the aesthetic qualities of the hair transplant. Hair follicle arrangement and placement are determined on a case-by-case basis. It is important to have a surgeon with extensive experience performing this procedure – one who can identify the patient’s pattern of hair loss and the likelihood of future hair loss. Since follicular unit transplants mimic the way hair grows in nature, the results, when transplanted well, will look completely natural and be indistinguishable from one’s original hair. In other words, there will not be any unsightly clumps or corn rows of hairs.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)

FUE is the method of directly and individually harvesting hair follicle grafts from a patient’s donor area(s). FUE is typically performed by a robotic machine. FUE saves cost by reducing the number of technicians involved in the procedure but increases the chances for donor site degradation, scarring, and possibly limits or negates the possibilities for future procedures if desired.

Additionally, follicles are extremely delicate, and suction can negatively impact their viability after being exposed to forceful extraction. Dr. Garramone’s practice believes that FUI and not FUE is the safest and most clinically proven procedure to ensure long-term hair follicle viability and hair restoration.

The Difference is the Plastic Surgeon

While hair transplants don’t require in-depth plastic surgery, the hair transplant patient benefits from the techniques of a highly skilled surgeon to ensure there is little or no scarring apparent after the procedure. Top-notch credentials such as being board certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery help validate the physician’s overall expertise and experience, resulting in safe and rapid healing of the hair donor site.

Being a recipient of Castle-Connolly’s America’s “Top Doctors Recognition” demonstrates that a physician’s peers recommend his services. A state-of-the-art facility that has met the stringent accreditation requirements of AAAASF certifies the highest level of safety and quality.
